Most people think life insurance only pays if you die. The policies I recommend include living benefits. If you're diagnosed with a qualifying illness, you may be able to access part of your death benefit early and use it for the mortgage, the bills or time off work while you focus on treatment.

Qualifying conditions, amounts and availability depend on the policy, rider and state, and not everyone qualifies. Using a living benefit reduces the death benefit.
